Hi there, I am back with the hot shots and I hope this fires you to start a challenge of your own. In this HOTSHOT I share a challenge I gave myself, to sketch 100 people in one week. You’ll see my sketchbook throughout the week in video and in detail here for your sketchinspiration!!
Let’s start with the the video clip

After another break I’m happy to get these two great HOT SHOTS to inspire your sketching!! Before I get going I’ll just love to say my exhibition of paintings and drawings of York is currently on at The Kentmere House Gallery, York. I also have an article in The Artist Magazine (December Issue) titled, “Sketching a Passion”- in the article I explain how I transform my sketches from black and white to colour. Do get a copy if you can, it’s a good read…..I’ll be sharing some of the tips in it later on this blog.

HOT SHOT 12, 13-IMPROVE YOUR SKETCHING BY SQUINTING AND SEEING SHAPES

This is a double hot shot and I have decided to combine them both because they are related!
It’s all about having your eyes partially closed in order to see the main shapes in whatever you plan to sketch and then using this to quickly get down some basic marks to get going while sketching this is very helpful when approaching complicated subjects.
But before we continue If you missed my last Hot Shot, number 11, on actually sketching what you see and not what you know about what you see. Click HERE
HOT SHOT 10-PRACTICE SKETCHING WITH THE STRUCTURE OF THE SUJECT IN MIND

I am happy to get back to this again after a good long think on how I was going to share this HOT SHOT. I am really excited about this tip and I hope you are able to really grasp the full gist of what I am trying to communicate. This hot shot is all about practicing sketching with an understanding of the structure, planes or with the mind of “The Three-Dimensional” in anything you are sketching. If you missed my last HOT SHOT, HOTSHOT 9 which had to do with angles and tilts, please click HERE.
